(High-Collectible)
("The California Collection") This one-of-a-kind antique Caucasian Karabagh, woven in the offers a remarkable range of vegetably-dyed colors and extraordinary elemental imagery. The scintillating cerulean field color is host to a flotilla of floating ‘ashik’ guls - emblems that have been known to appear on pottery from Neolithic archaeological sites, often occur in Central Asian rugs from the 19th century. Judging from the lack of published examples of this design, the carpet must have been conceived from personal inspiration and love of the major motifs used. Karabagh weavers were famous for their chromatic celebrations, and this luminous, unusual color palette glows through the top tier wool used in the construction of this fascinating art rug. Unfathomably, this tribal masterpiece has virtually full pile as evidene of the charm and power at its essence and shielded from harm by its owners.
