(Connoisseur-Caliber) ("The California Collection") This piece is a superb example of the endlessly fascinating iterations of Caucasian folk weavings, at once mysterious and playful, in a seldom-found size that can be comfortably used virtually anywhere in the home. Its pattern captivates the viewer by revealing how the hand of a mature artist visually articulates the vitality of a youthful naivety. The kaleidoscopic presentation of designs in the field is immediately energizing and mood-lifting, with eight-pointed starflowers down the centerline alternating with flashy diamond motifs. Interlocking chevrons combine to create camouflaged ’Stars of Wisdom’ connected by jewel-shaped ornaments. Triangular amulet devices cling to the inner perimeter of the field between esoteric emblems and improvised shapes. Every robust, time-mellowed color was painstakingly prepared with organic ingredients gathered locally or acquired through trade. A cheery design of oblique bars occupies the minor bands, enclosing trumpet-petalled rosettes on an ivory base. Its condition remains very fine.
