(Connoisseur-Caliber)
At more than 150 years of age, this diminutive Seichur Kuba features an innovative pattern of compartmented 'Art Deco' rosettes and polygon blossoms on a seldom-seen dark walnut ground. The rhythmic dynamic of the composition is much enlivened by the masterful contrasts between light and dark hues of brick red, goldenrod, and rose, with powder blue giving way to deep cerulean. While the' S' glyphs that connect the loosely drawn filigree lattice do not stand for 'Seichur,' scholars have suggested that they are vestigially symbolic of sacred Zoroastrian celestial bodies. Enigmatic tiny circular devices rise through the field as effervescent improvisations. Handsome borders contain numerous spontaneous variations. These and other timeless features lend a freshness and presence only found in highly accomplished pieces woven before the advent of commercialism.
