(High-Decorative) Capturing the enigmatic quality for which Caucasian rugs are beloved, this some 120-year-old antique Shirvan pulsates with vital energy. The central axis of five iconic, Lesghi-inspired eight-pointed star medallions have a highly totemic quality and aesthetically rhythmic impact. Age old Zoroastrian S-motifs float among an orderly assemblage of endearing tribal pinwheels, eccentric polygons and latch-hook embellished ‘Diamonds of Strength’. A highly effective and naturally dyed Oxford blue is juxtaposed with horizontal waves of shimmering cobalt and lapis that add great depth to this richly toned rug while scintillating shades of luminous cinnabar create a striking visual counterpoint. The ‘chalice and oak leaf' border is finely etched and incorporates wonderfully idiosyncratic inclusions in the left-hand corners.
