Twitter Facebook Pinterest(High-Collectible) ("The California Collection") Cloudband Kazaks descend from the inimitable Caucasian Karabagh tradition, which also originated the Eagle Kazak design, two evocative motifs that seem to imagine a mythical world. In this expressive piece, three striking mandalas present this style's cloudband devices that radiate from central golden squares on a seldom-seen walnut brown ground. These enigmatic forms in Asian mythology represent the vapors that enclose the dragon as it flies overhead, emanating an age-old, deeply symbolic ambiance of beneficence. Totemic avian and mammalian creatures are also found in select cloudbands, wandering around inside the medallions. In the rich, madder red field, the menagerie continues with technicolor gazelles spontaneously congregating and encountering surrealistic human figures among a plethora of abstract flora and enigmatic tribal motifs. The relaxed drawing and artfully liberated placement of every design lend a sense of energy and movement throughout the cosmic composition. At a century and a half of age, its condition is stunning.
