(Connoisseur-Caliber) ("New Arrivals Gallery") Our world-class collection of extremely hard-to-find, artistic 19th century Bakshaish carpets now includes this stunning piece. Featuring a rare inky blue ground that supports the carpets splendiferous palette and inventive overscale pattern, this piece is rife with many inventive idiosyncrasies, the hallmark of this village style. Large chromatically varied frond shapes lend hidden architecture to the spirited field pattern while a pair of buttercup-toned palmettes provide focus at its center. The color palette is sumptuous, led by a resonant vermillion in the border and throughout the field backed up by a chorus of mid-toned blues, salmons, more touches of soft yellow. A classical border design known as Shah Abbas is here charmingly accessorized by tiny flower and leaf motifs the Bakshaish tradition.
