Four cruciform flower medallions in blazing carnelian align vertically, featuring highly stylized rosettes extending into an ivory cross encircled by sparkling blue buds. Each is enclosed by two ribbons of gleaming electric sapphire that create hexagonal compartments. Outside are two hourglass motifs above, followed by pairs of spiky ashik guls (a uniquely stylized flower) and whirling pinwheel florets as the eye descends the mocha-hued field. At the bottom, a platform shape houses an ivory band with Kufic script that reads the date of this runner’s construction. A suite of five narrow, decorated bands completes the frame, creating a visual sense of tension resolved by the expansive, tranquil interior. Finely textured abrash striations bring additional charm to this unaffected work of folk art, that is sure to enhance the artistry and allure in whatever passageway it adorns.
