(High-Collectible)
("Featured in our new print catalog") We have never seen anything like this boundlessly spontaneous folkloric vision of nature that so deftly epitomizes the revolutionary artistry of the Persian Bakshaish style. Living remotely amidst a great mountain expanse, Bakshaish weavers experienced nature’s forces directly; the most creative of them could express this unique sense of life unfolding. Extraordinarily conceived and even more astonishingly executed, this room-size carpet’s field pattern presents an imagined thicket of tropical-size stylized blossoms, leaves and vinery. Surrounding this carpet’s animated internal display, rosettes and lightning bolt leaves languidly float on this carpet’s main surround. Throughout the magnificent crimson-toned field and signature, luminiferous “Bakshaish Blue” border, subtle, deliberate shifts of hue expertly support the carpet's complex dynamism. An unadorned band of natural mocha-toned camelhair adds a rustic edge, evoking this rug’s origin within the ancient Persian village weaving tradition. Over 160 years old, its condition happily remains nothing short of remarkable with the mostly heavier pile.
