This captivating 19th century Persian Malayer Sarouk rug is an expressive delight with its glistening, lightly patinated surface, sharply drawn stylized floral design, and extremely fine weave. The spacious firebrick reserve is fascinating, particularly its radical color shift to antiqued vermilion as the eye approaches the top. Its village weavers employed this abrash technique to create an asymmetrical element of great surprise and to bolster visual interest. An eccentric elliptical medallion based in ivory contains a frenzy of flora that perfectly fills each contour. Arrow straight anchor pendants add gravity and balance overall. Scintillating shades of radiant mid-range blue course through narrowly conjoined spandrels illuminating even more jubilantly hued verdure. Amidst the sweeping botanical melange in the navy border, feathery fan palmettes and sprocket-like flowers take on subtle yet wide-ranging shades.
