(High-Collectible)
("New Arrivals Gallery") This optically stunning weaving is an exceedingly rare nearly two-centuries-old Afshar pictorial vision that commemorates an ancient migration scene not unlike that found on the famous Pazyryk carpet dated to the 5th century BCE. (The Afshar nomads were famous for their lengthy, arduous seasonal migration across the Zagros Mountains of Southern Persia). In this tribute piece, nomadic horsemen in traditional attire ride among rambunctious gazelles and elemental canines. Intriguingly, smaller-scale human figures hover near the equestrians, perhaps illustrating the next generation joining their fathers on the epic journey. Lush horizontal cypress trees, radiant blossoms, boteh (”Seed of Life” motifs), and a plethora of minuscule florets flourish amidst the primary motifs, all resting upon a patinaed sandstone ground. Between glyph-filled ivory bands, a vivid cerulean main border features sun-like flowers rising between elaborate triangular amulets against a luminous “sky” to complete a mesmerizing visual journey.
