(Connoisseur-Caliber) From the ingenious Persian Afshar tribe, this piece is at once tightly controlled and exuberantly expressive, stretching the boundaries of the classical Afshar pattern language and the tribe’s traditional color palette. Row upon row of dream-time trees are ordered in phalanx formation across the parchment-hued expanse of the field. Spinninng pinwheel florets and tiny triangular talismans adorn the tops of each, burgeoning boteh seeds incubate within the larger forms. The color palette is in subdued yet bold hues, and the Afshar penchant for patterns within patterns is on full display based on how the colors are juxtaposed to one another. Another touch that makes this eloquent tribal rug endlessly fascinating to explore. Note also the endearingly minuscule secondary motifs dotted throughout and primarily along the vertical edge of the inner perimeter, including a series of zoomorphic representations of what could be horses, canines, gazelles, or all three!
