(Connoisseur-Caliber)
("New Arrivals Gallery") Demonstrating an eloquently intricate and innovative 'keyhole' design, this extremely early Ferahan offers inspiring artistry and an entirely satisfying, skillfully adapted palette. Intriguing to see is the asymmetrical positioning of this chiseled, stained glass-like allover pattern against its subtly striated buff field, highly coveted by collectors in the know. Three deeply hued cruciforms adorn the horizontal axis like jewels, further illustrating the gentle expansion alluded to in this piece by moving “off-canvas” its softened yet clear colors are only possible when natural dyes have matured over the passage of many generations, their placement to one another, luckily for us, was in the hands of a master. Doubly enhancing this 19th-century area rug’s painterly aura is the unfathomably deft application of abrash in the main border, achieving a rich sandstone texture emulating the strata of famous lithic landscapes.
