(High-Collectible)
Of unusually generous width, this absolutely exquisite oversize antique carpet is a masterwork from the workshop of the luminary carpet designer, Hadji Jallili, of the Persian city of Tabriz. This extraordinarily finely crafted carpet has been stored long-term as part of a private collector, thus is in excellent, heavier-pile condition. It also excels in its subtly gradations of hue and pin-point detail work. Rather than the more commonly seen predominant medallion or all-over format, this dignified City carpet displays a concentric series of extremely subtle hexagonal medallions with gently lobed edges. An inconceivably finely rendered "Herati" (repeating diamond and leaf pattern) washes over the rug's medallions, field, and spandrels, enhancing the atmosphere of quiet, celestial splendor. Its virtuoso main border features an extended series of cartouche forms, each of which is individual in its exact shape, size, and tonality. Each are connected by vinery that is evocative of the trail of a whirling dervish. The pile condition is superb with the hint of a patina at nearly a century and a half of age.
