This incredibly graphic Khamseh boldly illustrates a fascinating pattern of ultra-stylized boteh (ancient "Seed of Life" motifs) so well-loved by the weaving artists of this Arab tribal confederation living within Persia. The totemic contents of their interior are never repeated in quite the same way, whether referring to color or shape. Interstitially placed between each monolithic boteh are tiny Phrygian cap-shaped boteh, pinwheel florets, and other imaginative motifs. Many more intriguing discoveries abound. Subtle nuances of hue within the diverse color palette astonish as buoyant azures and vivid burgundy interplay with jades and saffrons in harmonious polyphony. Another favored Khamseh motif is the 'murghi' or 'wild chicken' that steadfastly pecks at the ground in a courteous pose at the bottom of the field. Its sprightly border displays a hieroglyphic sequence of festive flora, creating a delightful sense of animation. Not only is this electrifying rug in remarkable condition with very good pile overall, but part of the original flat-woven kilim ends is intact!.
