When camelhair was used in the weaving of magnificent pieces such as this extremely bold runner, an immediate earthy quality is imbued into the rug’s aesthetic, that in a way, represents the connection that was migrating Kurdish nomads had to their seasonal geography. The boldly drawn “path" is illuminated by a series of dignified ivory medallions that enclose a radial assemblage of cubist flower forms. A pair of borders, one a novel twin boteh motif with a curious pixellated version of the ‘wine glass’ motif they other vermillion and walnut reciprocated crenellations, is elevated by the luxurious camelhair edge and the natural striations that occur in this fine material shimmering along its length. With a supple handle and composed of top-quality luminescent wool, this piece has a nearly full pile, a seldom encountered quality in runners of significant age. It has an undiscerable date woven into its border.
