KURDISH CAMELHAIR RUNNER, Northwest Persian

(High-Decorative)
Possessers of a weaving history that goes back some three thousand years, the independent spirit of the Kurds is alive and well in this handsome camelhair runner. The center is illumined by a stepping stone-like pathway of bright ivory medallions housing a folk art assemblage of boldly colored abstract botanical elements. In the warm mocha reserve, a variety of boldly drawn semi-nomadic designs are spaciously arranged where colorful animals share space with rosettes, cruciforms, and polychrome chessboards along with novel shapes that take on the appearance of woodland creatures in profile. It also features pairs of horses, budding crosses, and "exploded" blossoms adding great charm in its generously wide camel margins. Happily, at over a century of age, this stellar rug has luxuriant heavy pile.
