LAVER KIRMAN, Southeast Persian
4' 2" x 5' 8" Late 19th Century Price: $8,500
(High-Decorative)
This fanciful antique Laver Kirman is a quite finely crafted Persian city rug that is imbued with a relaxed ambiance from the slight variances of shape and spacing not often seen in floral rugs and indicating a very accomplished weaver who could maintain overall symmetry without a knot by knot cartoon. Soft celadon and leaf greens effectively counterbalance scarlet reds as ever-changing waves of color animate an all-over array of carefully rendered boteh (paisley-like motifs), in which no two are precisely alike. Flowing botanical borders share this rhythmic, spontaneous character, demonstrating an abundance of originality that we recognize as art-level. Its exceedingly good pile condition would allow one to position this lyrical piece virtually anywhere in the home.
