(High-Decorative)
Unabashedly “over the top", this 120-year-old tribal rug seemingly is the result of a challenge that a certain dexterous Kurdish weaver gave to herself to incorporate several design elements from southern Persian traditions in the most complex arrangement possible. The field’s design is filled with Khamseh vertical “canes” filled with a meandering vine pattern and enclosed by an ivory-based border of stepped half diamonds. Beyond that, two different Afshar diagonal borders reside comfortably side by side via an inspired command of scale, allowing a crisply drawn interlocking bird’s heads border on a rich gold background to frame this chromatic and technical extravaganza. This energetic rug would greatly enliven even the most “incurable” spaces. The condition of this piece is exceedingly good.
