This sparkling Bakshaish carpet perfectly captures the strikingly elemental, harmonious aesthetic at the very foundation of this most prized folk art style, as executed by visionary master weavers nearly two centuries ago. The graphic nature of the intriguing triple medallion design floating within an open, finely striated burnt copper field would make it equally dramatic in a rustic mountain home or a contemporary urban environment. This "Harshang" pattern of large flowerheads oriented vertically and horizontally combined with geometric tribal motifs is echoed in the spandrels. As a design, it highlights the shared visual lexicon of village weavers in Persia and their Caucasian tribal neighbors enduring over the centuries in similar fashion to an oral tradition. This carpet is a time capsule in which the iconic qualities of joyful naiveté and unabashed use of subtle asymmetry are used to enhance the rug's level of balance and harmony. Its condition remains superb, especially when considering it's over 150 years of age.
