("New Arrivals Gallery") The multi-pointed “Lesghi Star,” one of the most memorable design elements found in Caucasian weavings, is an ancient symbol whose origins are uncertain but very similar to the renowned eight-pointed “Star of Wisdom.” This ecstatic rug is filled to the brim with these esoteric emblems. A geometricized flowerhead is at the center of each; this particular design is often seen in Caucasian rugs as the so-called ‘crab’ border pattern. Those that run vertically along the sapphire blue field are accompanied by proud guardian peacocks floating among stellar roundels and cloudbands. In the fiery carnelian main border are additional zoological beings and other happy ornamental surprises. Fantastic design proportions and remarkable condition at over a century of age make this piece a winner for those who enjoy the magic of tribal weaving.
