ROYAL KIRMAN RUNNER
2' 10" x 22' 2" (86 x 676cm) Circa 1930
(Decorative) ("New Arrivals Gallery") Persian Kirmans have been much beloved since the 1930s, when this runner of incredibly rarely seen length was woven. This notable botanical piece (a style known as "Royal Kirman") evokes a garden in full bloom, depicted with a delicate color palette of dusty rose, Wedgewood blues, and ivory. The field is a graceful array of intricate bouquets in eight flowerhead arrangements, interspersed with charming floral sprays. Charmingly drawn, petite vases filled with flowering tendrils form the main border. Preserved in excellent heavy pile condition even after nearly 100 years with deeply lustrous wool, this delightful find can greatly enrich and illuminate any long hall.
