Even among the esteemed weavings attributed to the master carpet designer Hadji Jallili (Haji Jalili), of the Persian city of Tabriz this mesmerizing antique room size rug stands out. Multiple creative presentations of the traditional Herati Oriental carpet pattern are superimposed, one upon the other, both within the center medallion and the dramatic hexagonal reserve. Crisp clarity of drawing of even the most petit point details create a rich texture and pulsating visual effect that is brilliantly contrasted by the open cinammon to copper reserve. A closer look at this 19th century Persian court carpet gradually reveals ethereal soft celadon, taupe and auburn accents throughout the composition--an effect of extreme subtlety and refinement.
