11' 4" x 15' 0" (345 x 457cm) — Circa 1875
(Connoisseur-Caliber) This over 150-year-old Persian Village carpet features a highly original interpretation of the large format Serapi design, notably distinguished by its extremely singular white gold centerpiece. Along with this uniquely soft-gilded-hued medallion, a very spacious ivory framing shifts the color balance of this dynamic carpet to convey a crisp, modern ambiance. Eye-catching palmettes in the border and at the corners harmoniously offset the diminutive scale of the field's delicate vinery. This circa 1875 oversize piece is in fabulous, heavier-pile condition with extremely fine knotting for a 19th-century Serapi carpet.
