SERAB CAMELHAIR, Northwest Persian
3' 9" x 4' 2"
114cm x 127cm
This cheerful antique mat size village rug possesses an undiluted spirit that is infinitely more impactful than seems possible given its diminutive size. A single ivory-ground medallion floats on an undyed camelhair field, a design element characteristically found vertically along the length of the runner format for which this village tradition is known. All the enigmatic motifs of the Serab tradition, such as its stylized flowerhead main border and crenelated fence outer frame, become even more entrancing when presented in an area rug. Still in heavy-pile condition, this piece, with its squarish shape, is perfect for niches along a hallway, in a powder room, or in a secondary vestibule.
