Inventive use of space and color, a rare white-gold tonality, and exquisite formal drawing combine to create this singular rendition of Ferahan Sarouk style. The glowing field, enhanced by subtle, yet continual striation, provides a resplendent backdrop for the rug’s fluted medallion and graceful, meandering boughs. Shimmering auburns in both the field and border provide a brilliant counterpoint to the aureate ground. The equally remarkable, spacious design begins at the center with a poised latticework holding both tiny buds and beautifully articulated palmettes, while outside it blossoming stems introduce the glorious array of saturated natural dyes for which this style is renowned. An intriguing main border focuses our attention on tendrils, instead of usual periodic palmettes that here can only be glimpsed at the edges.
