4' 2" x 5' 1" Late 19th Century
(“New Acquisition Sampling") This vibrant Gendje rug is part of a highly treasured type of antique tribal weaving, with its bold, charming design and richly saturated dyes, including a wealth of prized, hard-to-dye teal green and luminous blue tones. The well-proportioned field contains a series of wide diagonal bands, alternating in tones of ivory, midnight indigo, cobalt blue and saturated brick red. A dramatically abrashed main border displays a series of vigorous scrolling meander motifs.
