MOHTASHAM KASHAN, Central Persian
4' 4" x 6' 7"
Late 19th Century
(Connoisseur-Caliber) (“New Acquisition Sampling") This example is a singular exploration of understatement within the exquisite Mohtasham Kashan artistic tradition. The carpet presents a reserve resplendent with softly toned flowers floating on a barely visible abrashed, inky blue to sapphire background. Amidst the overall golden tonality a fluted medallion emerges with finely drawn, beautiful elaborations of Mohtasham floral forms that, on close inspection, include copper, persimmon, goldenrod, and celadon hues. A finely tooled inventive border rests on a muted celadon base that extends the openness of the field. This well preserved 160 year old carpet is a masterful departure from the general, more colorful approach that we usually see in this style. Learn About This Rug Type
