The finest, early room-size 19th-century Ferahan Sarouks have always been a carpet of choice for our most seasoned clients furnishing a larger area. This extraordinary 9x12 piece offers a uniquely elongated, golden ivory medallion gently demarcated from its field of continually reinvented blossoms as well as an exceedingly fine weave and soft, constantly changing exotic hues. All of these elements indicate a mid-19th-century vintage, as does its brilliantly spacious border suite. Examples of early formal carpets across the major styles, as in this piece, often present very simplified borders in contrast to an intricate field and, in fact, are one of the ways we recognize the mid-century or earlier era. The carpet's superb condition further enhances its great collectability.
