(High-Decorative) Sultanabad carpets are, visually speaking, an evolution between the Village and Town workshop traditions. They can be more formal and floral with organic contours or more geometric and totemic with folk art sensibilities. This incredibly beautiful example from the early 20th century is more expressive of the formal side and retains many 19th-century characteristics. Innumerable delightful idiosyncrasies reveal the spirited hand-knotting of its spontaneously creative weavers. The jubilant rosette main border is a celebration of color with flashy hues of luminous aqua, rose citrine, glowing coral, and Egyptian blue, providing an intriguing counterbalance. Created by the passage of more than a century, a glow of patina dignifies this beautiful Persian Sultanabad carpet, showcasing a vivid color palette filled with harmonious natural hues. It is in superb floor condition and would provide many years of joyful beauty.
