The sophisticated arabesque lattice pattern in this venerable Konagend Kuba offers perhaps the most intriguing and expressive example we have seen of this type in four decades of business. The enigmatic design is comprised of bird-like stylizations and multi-faceted polygons, some containing pinwheel blossoms and delightfully rendered, tiny flowering trees. Its percipient weaver composed an inherently cohesive symphony of exotic 19th-century color, utilizing shades of heirloom ruby red, cerulean, rose gold, peacock, jade, and whispers of virtually never encountered lavenders. Also of note in this piece is the unusual main border, which is most often depicted as a Kufic design. This exquisite piece is in wonderful heavier pile condition at the substantial age of over one-and-one-half-centuries old.
