High-level 19th-century carpets from the weaving region centered on the village of Bakshaish are renowned for their tremendously innovative, genre-busting creative improvisations. Floating on a sea of royal blue, numerous colorful almond-shaped medallions create a lively allover original pattern. The ordered display of festive, flattened lozenges, each encasing a large flowerhead, drifts off frame in all directions, eliciting a palpable sense of movement. The effect is completely liberating. Throughout, this dynamic, heavy-pile carpet utilizes a deft application of abrash color shifting that creates visual depth and further enlivens its euphoric, utterly delightful composition. The supporting golden-hued border with its rosette and oakleaf meandering border pattern adds a softly rhythmic quality to its ambiance.
