("New Arrivals Gallery") This remarkable rug featuring a particularly iconic design from the Seichur Kuba tradition, referred to as the St. Andrew's Cross motif, reveals an inspired, non-traditional treatment of the field and borders. Rather than just the typical stylized floral secondary motifs, we are treated to a whimsical display of tiny tribal elements. Along with them are the powerful, signature medallions of this rug style, creating the two interactive tiers of tribal life: an overarching cultural and cosmic order mingled with the enjoyment of the simplest pleasures. The six-border suite that frames the evocative field is a seldom-seen treatment and includes the beloved "Ocean Wave" or "Eagle's Head" pattern, with a completely original minor outer band, adding significant gravitas to this endearing tribal jewel in fabulous condition.
