Late 19th Century
With the exquisite delicacy of its softly curving lines, this exotically colored carpet exemplifies the expressive character of renowned master designer Hadji Jallili. Its evocative focal point is a lotus-centered composite medallion floating upon a peerless, consummately dyed pale olive green ground. Overscale blossoms are outlined in carefully predetermined indigo blue and the majority of botanical details in ivory, some with sublime hues receding to the background. This creates an artistically triumphant layered effect that bestows great depth to the composition. Close inspection reveals delectable tones of powder blue, peach, rose quartz, buttercup, and other tertiary colors. Echoing the undulating tendrils in the interior, the patterning of the three borders provides a perfectly balanced compliment to the ethereal quality of the field. Its outstanding condition indicates the great love with which it has always received.
