This some 130-year-old Laver Kirman is a regal, consummately crafted representative of this extremely fine Persian Court weaving tradition. In amazing heavier pile condition, it masterfully utilizes the nuanced drawing and a palette of extremely mature colors. Within an open, fluidly contoured reserve, a grand medallion is illuminated by a delicate tracery of painstakingly articulated flowers, bouquets and wreaths, each drawn with careful symmetry and exquisite attention to detail. Subtly shaded in soft, complementary hues, an effusive assortment of elegant botanical forms extend along a central vertical axis to describe intricate twin pendants. Swirling fronds define the edges of majestic linked cornerpieces, themselves filled with a diversity of individually drawn floral motifs. Throughout, the patina of substantial age softens and enhances the carpet’s distinctive natural palette.
