(High-Decorative)
This potent high-decorative piece from the villages near Heriz in Northwest Persia presents the joyous colors and unpretentious artistry of its room-size counterparts, in a long runner format. Profound asymmetry extends throughout its 19th-century village carpet design, most notably its entirely dissimilar, delightfully freeform medallions. Eleven luminous hexagons adroitly shift in shape and pattern. Each of these portals contains mystical symbols abstracted from the natural world in hues of sapphire, rose, burnished gold, moss, and seldom seen leaf green. Amid flower-studded polygons, totemic animal motifs of fantasticized camels and gazelles are drawn with joyful freedom on a rich scarlet backdrop. A host of technicolor birds are on parade with differentially outlined pinwheel blossoms in the triple border suite. At over a century of age, this endearing village weaving has retained its full pile.
