("New Arrivals Gallery") At the center of this breathtakingly minimalist Serapi, an eight-petalled flower medallion extends into unusual scepter-like pendants, surrounded by budding branches. A folkloric quality expressing the Serapi character is on full display as no two flowers or leaves are alike, even when "symmetrically" paired on either side. Glowing vermilion, a starkly beautiful "Window to Eternity" gleams like a Zoroastrian fire altar viewed from above. The soothing rosy quartz of the halo around the centerpiece is also present in the spandrels, where the gradual shift throughout the composition from vibrant pistachio greens to deep teal is most apparent. Its time-softened colors and highly stylized, delicately drawn botanical motifs transform the robust presentation into a magically understated visage. At 160 years old, it has spent most of its life in storage and is in wonderful condition.
