A playful innovation reflects the joie de vivre found in these village pieces woven throughout the 19th century. Its sense of ecstatic improvisation is seen in the inverted corner pieces at the top of the field and in the abruptly interrupted inner band of chained daisies, where the horizontal striped has become separated at the bottom. This movement adds a firm visual compression and elongation of the main border's rosette and oak leaf motif. Adorning the saturated red field are two “barber’s pole”-connected medallions in a seldom-found peach hue.
