("Featured in our new print catalog")From an era that placed great value on the spontaneity at the loom that preceded this tribal weaving tradition that spawned innumerable small rugs reflecting a panaroma of memorable patterns comes this amazing Kuba rug. For the connoisseur it is a piece that will stand the test of time, so inspiring is its artistic audacity. Rows of butterflies share the field with faceted diamonds and pairs of diminutive birds, while the entire canvas is sprinkled with tiny glittering crosses. Exuberant naturally dyed colors that include a generous amount of glowing yellow gold from the precious saffron dyestuff vivify this expressive design. Borders show stencil daisies, elongated “S” forms of Zorastrian origin, and an innermost band of star-like shapes. Underlying the seeming cheerful abandon of this whimsical piece is a finely knotted, consummately woven foundation. Its primarily heavier pile shimmers due to lustrous wool produced by rugged high-mountain Karakul sheep.
