This is a folkloric collector's gem from the legendary Bakshaish weavers in a coveted mat size, crafted with glistening golden camelhair fleece. The unadorned reserve showcases an intrepid tonal shift of camel hues, adding a greater sense of depth and intrigue. This expanse is defined by sharply drawn step and dentil edge motifs that lead to a luculent royal azure for which the master dyers of Bakshaish are famously known. Casually drawn cinnabar latticework in the corner spandrels elicit the feeling of looking out the window at a starry evening sky. A playful border sequence has a tumbling rosette and arrow pattern in the walnut-hued main band, paralleled by ultra-stylized dragon symbols populating the minor stripes. Camel margins tie together the composition as an extension of the sparse center. This rarely found compact jewel remains in wonderful heavier to medium pile condition after 170 years.
