Illustrating an intensely distinctive weaving tradition, this outstanding Shahsavan in the seldom-seen runner format presents captivating, still potent colors and actively fascinating imagery. Like a springtime forest bursting with cherry blossoms, a parade of cheerfully sparkling tree forms progress along the deep indigo ground, thereby tremendously increasing this runner's joyful ambiance. The fluctuations of hue from rose to coral and deep vermilion in the tiny flowers imbue this piece with a rich dimensionality. The primary border's clear ivory ground provides numerous small canvases where a progression of continual variations of the same geometric expressionist painting unfold. This perfectly counterbalances the more organically rendered interior. At the venerable age of nearly a century and a half and still retaining heavier pile, this piece would inspire great joy on the floor for a great many years to come.
