The Bakhtiari tribespeople dwelling in the rugged Zagros Mountains are famed for their perilous annual migrations over snow-capped peaks and their lustrous, deeply toned tribal weavings of distinctive wide-ranging patterns. This astonishing, one-of-a-kind Bakhtiari rug aptly entirely reinvents the age-old “Tree of Life” design. Its dazzlingly saturated vegetally-dyed colors vividly communicate the great vitality for which tribal works are highly desired. The blossom-laden boughs are an evocative centerpiece brilliantly amplified by the contrast between the soft parchment field and the cobalt-based border filled with a multitude of rainbow-hued flowers surrounding it. A devoted menagerie of birds, deer, and canids surround each potted plant below and line the perimeter of this arboreal exhibition. With its heavy pile, this piece is not only a singular artwork, but an extremely practical floor covering destined to last decades.
