(High-Collectible)
("Featured in our new print catalog") The astonishing density of precisely drawn flora and fauna, as accomplished in this remarkable room-size Persian floral style rug, demonstrates a soaring level of originality and splendor in its portrayal of the "Garden of Paradise" theme. Even as an exemplar of the 19th century Persian classical tradition, this carpet's abundance of differing forms, seamless integration of elements, and the exquisite, wide color palette is a tour-de-force woven opus. Surrounding a central blooming tree, a profusion of exuberantly hued garden bursts into a rainbow of seasoned 19th-century hues. Dexterous chiaroscuro abrash color shifts abound, creating luminous textures. Nestled within the painstakingly rendered foliage are an extraordinary number of exotic birds that seem to meld into every branch, bud, and flower. Their sensitively captured postures, body shapes and sizes, and wing and tailfeathers are diverse and fascinating. Smaller species in acrobatic poses can be seen throughout the celadon-based border with its more spacious botanical display in quiet contrast to the field. This 150-year-old Laver Kirman remains in superb condition.
