("New Arrivals Gallery") This 120-year-old rug presents a forthright simplicity while simultaneously expressing a sophisticated pattern language. The traditional Afshar field formats of interlocking diamonds draw upon an ancient design; a kaleidoscopic blossom motif extends into a four-directions cross within each stepped compartment. Vividly patterned borders of chained sprigs and vine meanders create a powerful graphic counterpoint to the field. This exceptionally dynamic rug from the renowned Southeast Persian tribe offers a wide array of vibrant hues adding even greater vitality. Its palette runs from warm to cool tones juxtaposing scarlet, melon, goldenrod, and mulberry red with navy, azure, and celadon to combine for a full chorus of animated colors. Heavier pile of wear-resistant nomadic wool is a further welcome dividend from this joyful weaving.
