(Connoisseur-Caliber)
This protective tribal rug from the diverse Kuba realm combines a uniquely captivating visual arrangement that blends a mastery of natural dye techniques and visually splendid graphics. A crimson hexagonal lattice fills the soothing azure field. Each resulting compartment houses an angular lotus palmette that has released geometricized, flashy boteh forms or “Seeds of Life” directly above. A visual banquet of vivid color tones, oxblood, paled emerald, and golden bronze are brilliantly juxtaposed to deep royal blue, citrine, and delicate lilac. The octagonal rosettes in the main border are most often seen in Gendje rugs, while the central pattern and weave are decidedly Kuba devices. Narrow bands of sparkling florets dance along the perimeters completing this compellingly artful success story. With superb evenly patinated heavier pile, this rug would have immense appeal to even the most stubborn Caucasian cognoscenti.
