(Connoisseur-Caliber)
Woven on the rugged slopes of the Caucasus Mountains in the tribal village of Chondzoresk in Armenia, this striking Cloudband Kazak presents a spectacular level of character, spontaneity, freeform artistry, and color mastery. The ambiance of this memorable piece is at once casual, stately, and relaxed, with motifs within the composition that are a precious window into the vital tribal mind of that time. The bold color palette of rich cobalt, saffron gold, crimson, and emerald green is the result of a perfected dye brewing process using ingredients found within this herding people's nomadic range and was a source of tremendous joy to the tribal beholder. Individual drawing of each cloudband evokes a sense of their movement in the heavens; just looking at this tribal gem transports you to the roof of the world. This virtually full pile rug is a wonderful example of an archetypal tradition, offering luminous high mountain wool that augments its palpable vigor and beauty.
