("New Arrivals Gallery") Several unique attributes comingle to create this resplendent Serapi carpet's one-of-a-kind visage. From the village of 19th century Heriz, the appearance of a field of undulating marine to cerulean tonalities is unexpected from this tradition, as is the small delicately scalloped medallion. Coupled with these two significant departures, the vinery-based design filling the reserve and spandrels is refined, rather than overscale. This combination of Serapi grandeur and delicate precision imbues it with a palpable, inimitable presence. The possibility is exceedingly high that this piece was a commissioned work because of this originality and consummate craftsmanship. The masterful abrash tonal shifts in the field lend a three-dimensional depth to the luminescent expanse, suggesting a sunlit pool rippled by a gentle breeze. Crackling against a rarely seen golden ground, the "rosette and oak leaf " border pattern flows naturally, inexactly--creating a sense of perambulating movement to this magnificent nearly 150-year-old village carpet.
