("New Arrivals Gallery") This magnificently patterned Bakshaish comes from the seemingly endless design vocabulary of a highly esteemed weaving community and exhibits a rare combination of classical beauty and exotic charm. Spaciousness, multi-scale motifs, and spontaneous creativity are each represented, as well as a unique mastery of sophisticated color theory in this large room-size carpet. The ivory stepped medallion is like a majestic island with a quatrefoil lotus pool at the center, inhabited by surrealistic flowers and foliage amidst an otherwise unadorned rippled sea of glowing vermilion. Glimmering sapphire spandrels are capacious enough to allow the technicolor botanical display to achieve its full visual potential. The border uses a classical Shah Abbas pattern that is diverse in its forms and the interplay of achingly beautiful hues, lending a courtly ambiance to this wily village carpet. The condition of this luminous treasure is superb at virtually 150 years of age, with an even, medium-height pile that retains the resilient to comfortably support frequent foot traffic.
