(High-Collectible)
("Great Lakes Collection") This area-size standout creates a breath-taking vision of sheer beauty initiated by the brilliant and original combination of delphinium blue and turquoise, neither tonality associated with Mohtasham Kashan palettes. Only a master would commit to such a daring and unknown color combination and then develop a perfectly balanced, intricate color palette to support it, featuring an expertly created pecan dye that appears in the medallion and main border. This painstakingly crafted treasure is executed with extraordinary sensitivity that can be appreciated through close examination of every symmetrically complementary flower and leaf. This weaver left ample signs that he or she knotted these elements with a cartoon of the design close but "drew" the folicles and petals, border blossoms, and medallion decoration freehand. Possibly this journeyman weaver wished to "improve" on a designer's concept, ingesting a hidden aliveness that gives this formal rug its magnetic character. Spandrels featuring robust tendrils circle in upon themselves in elegant scrollwork like a whirling ecstatic dervish. A sensational color shift from brick reds to sunset oranges in the adjacent minor bands and the sublte changes in the spacing reflect the artistic adventure of the maker. Happily, its superb heavy pile condition further elevates an already exemplary piece. GLC rugs cannot be purchased using exchange credit.
