This captivating antique Tabriz offers a fascinating rendition of an ancient theme, with a beautiful array of earthy hues and glows with a glorious shimmer. This slight "patina" sets antique rugs apart from the rest. Mythical faun-like figures bear the vase holding the robust "Tree of Life" that ascends toward the scalloped archway. Flanking this venerable tree are running deer, pairs of songbirds, and bronze peacocks perching on ethereal branches. A pride of lions with outstretched paws stands in homage to the Safavid and Qajar royal houses, their symbolic nature having much more archaic origins. Under their reign, the carpet-making arts flourished and were a great sense of pride for all levels of society. The mostly heavier pile condition of this magical, pictorial Tabriz allows it to be placed in areas of heavier foot traffic around the home -- an additional welcome benefit to what is already a fascinating artistic achievement.
