("New Arrivals Gallery") A stunning visual orchestration is achieved in this mesmerizing Shirvan rug from the lowlands of the towering Caucasus mountain range north of ancient Persia. The glimmering flame-like lattice pattern encircles woven sketches of springtime flowers. Unlike lesser Shirvans that use the same sprig and flower design within each compartment, here four ideal forms are on display, all individualistically drawn. Its rich color palette is equally impactful through dextrous variation of hue, infusing and accentuating each bloom with its own energy and unique character through spontaneous painterly aplomb. A dazzling suite of border bands aptly frames the animated field. Minor bands move from tiny stellar flowerheads that pop against the ivory ground to mind-altering diagonal stripes with a classic “Crab” pattern main border that exhibits artful expansion and compression of its spiky sunburst shapes. Very finely woven for a tribal rug, it also remains in exceedingly good heavier pile condition after over 170 years and could be displayed almost anywhere in the home.
